You Can't Sell from an Empty Cart
If you don't have it you can't sell it. Your customer will have to compromise.
Marshall McKuen said "the media is the message." In this case, the number of coffees you sell is the message: "We care and want you to be satisfied."
If you can't put more coffee in, post our list and sell from the list of Hundreds.
Work a deal so you get it there on time for your customer.
I am biased toward more titles The more you show, the more you sell. This was our bible. Like a book store, a few of a lot.
This means no one goes home empty handed.
I roast and sell to retailers, so you may think I am saying this just so you will buy more coffee. You are right. If you are buying more coffee, your customers are buying more coffee and we will all be happier, more peaceful campers.
When I first started out as CoffeeTime I opened with three four foot shelf units, each with four shelves and 8 mason jars or small acrylic units (5 pound bins) on each shelf. That is 3 x 4 or 12 shelves, with 8 coffees per shelf with a beginning inventory of 96 coffees.
Yup. This was a mall. So there was plenty of traffic.
That grew to 6 four foot modules, with 5 shelves, and 8 coffees per shelf. 6 x 5 x 8 = 240 titles: Decaf, origins, blends, SWP's, flavors, flavored decafs, and decks of 3 x 5 cards for our coffee club.
